An increasing number of people world-wide grab the oars, set sail or board speedboats in order to take a trip on top of the waves. Some because they wish to get away from the madding crowd, and others because they intend to disembark every now and then, so that, while taking a rest, they can visit and see villages, towns or regions with a typical scenery.
Those who wish to visit a country by roaming its rivers and lakes, while also giving preference to being close to undisturbed nature, will find that it is well worth taking to the water in Hungary.
Each of the smaller and larger rivers and lakes ( River Tisza and its tributaries: Bodrog, Sajó, Bódva, Hernád, Körös, Maros; Danube and its tributaries: Mosoni-Gyori Duna, Dráva, Rába; Lake Ferto, Lake Balaton, Lake Velence and Lake Tisza) have different features to offer to the visitor. As a good host should, the waters await the tourist with ports nicely matching the scenery, while the nearby villages and towns cater for facilities such as campsites and hotels, fishing inns radiating a special flair, restaurants and shops. River and lake enthusiasts are offered a water sports culture rich in traditions and facilities and looking back to a past of almost one and a half centuries in Hungary.
