NEW ORLEANS, eccentric and elegant, is strongly connected to the South, but its identity remains aloof from any regional or even national affiliation. It reminds some visitors of Europe, in part because French and Spanish colonial architecture adds an Old World backdrop to some streets. But the feeling of foreignness goes deeper than that: The celebrated New Orleans atmosphere, cuisine, music, traditions and lifestyle are rooted in an embrace of the unconventional. New Orleans welcomes all, but is familiar to none.
Business Attire
Practices New Orleans can be very hot and muggy March-September, so the underlying principle for dress is "keep cool." In most corporate settings, businessmen can wear a very lightweight sports coat, tie and light cotton slacks. Businesswomen can forego power suits. Business lunches may be held in extremely informal settings.
